Hans Peter Schoenershoven Bentley, 60, died August 14, 2004. He was born to Elke and Hans Schoenershoven June 19, 1944, in Germany where he spent his younger years working in the family-owned Porsche dealership. He graduated from University of Brunschweig with a degree in engineering.
Hans arrived in the United States on July 4, 1974. He lived with relatives in the Baltimore, Maryland area during the summers and spent his winters in Aspen, Colorado. He also traveled extensively throughout the country. Hans met Gay Bentley in Aspen and they were married in 1981. They spent the first years of their marriage in the Scottsdale, Ariz. area before settling on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe in the early 1980s.
The foundation of Hans' life was his family; they were his universe. In addition to his wife, Gay, he leaves behind two exceptional children, Eric Peter, 17, and Brook Kristen, 15.
Hans had a life-long passion for motorsports. His award-winning racing career included five national championships and dozens of regional trophies. Hans was co-owner of Bentley Interior Design and he valued greatly his many friends and the beauty of the Tahoe region.
He is also survived by his mother, other relatives in Germany and his beloved dogs, Arrow and Bo. He is preceded in death by his father and step-brother.
Memorial services will be held at the Aspen Grove in Incline Village from noon to 2 p.m. on Friday, August 20. Directions can be located at www.ivgid.org.
