Description of Events
SPORTS CAR CLUB OF AMERICA was
founded in 1944 by amateur motorsports enthusiasts, the SCCA today has over
60,000 coast-to-coast members.
The organization is thriving as never before, and now sanctions more than 2000 amateur and professional motorsports events each year.
Spread across the country, SCCA's 110 regional chapters provide true grassroots
participation, and local amateur events at nearby circuits remain the backbone of club
activities. The individual SCCA regions
are brought together into a powerful national club
by a full-time professional staff headquartered in Topeka, Kansas.
The National
Office coordinates and administers rules, licensing, insurance, member benefits and the
various SCCA racing series. Providing direction to the National Office is an eleven-person
SCCA Board of Directors (BoD), elected by the membership for three-years and representing
each one of the club's 11 different geographic areas.
It is the BoD which sets club
policy, makes plans for the future, resolved conflicts and ensures that the needs of
individual members are fairly met.
The SCCA has its own national monthly magazine, SportsCar
which offers lively coverage of the many different SCCA activities and is designed to
quickly communicate all official club information. Most regions also have their own local
publications.
Road Racing - Competitors race wheel-to-wheel at our
region's three tracks: Laguna Seca
Raceway, Infineon Raceway,
and Thunderhill Park. Cars range
from production street cars to purpose-built, single-seat formula race cars.

Race Officials/Volunteers - The
behind-the-scenes backbone of our club's Road Racing events. It takes a lot of hard work
from many individuals to put on a race. SFR has some of the best race official and
volunteer crews in the country, as evidenced by our award-winning chiefs. If you're
interested in finding out about this alternative access to racing, please visit the SFR Race Official and Crew Specialty Opportunities page
for a description of the different crews

Vintage Racing - A showcase of
vintage racing automobiles. Winning the race is only half the fun. The competition,
camaraderie and history of these early race warriors are equally high on the weekend's
agenda.
Solo II (Autocross) - Low speed circuits
usually set up in parking lots or airport runways. Competitors drive their
street cars or highly modified race cars
around a temporary course, marked by pylons. As in Solo I, the fastest car wins. SFR has a
very active Solo II program, producing many national champions and top three finishers.
For more information on the SFR Solo II program, please visit their web site.

Concours d'Elegance - Rows and
rows of the finest examples of the automobile on display for your viewing pleasure and
appreciation. For more information on Concours, please contact Michael deSoto at (510) 531-1197.
Street School
- A non-competitive
event held at SFR's race track, Thunderhill Park. The emphasis at these events is to learn
car control and the basic skills necessary to drive your street car safely and to its full
potential. Students learn that the same techniques race drivers use to get around the
track quickly are equally applicable on public roads and highways. And, increase their
driving pleasure.
